Installation

• 1. Download the latest version of Netronics Voice Dictation from this page.
• 2. Run the installer (NetronicsVoiceDictationInstaller.exe) and follow the on-screen instructions.
• 3. Once installed, launch the application from your desktop or start menu.

Configuration

1. Open the settings window by clicking on the tray icon or using the configured shortcut (default: Ctrl+Alt+S).
2. Choose Your Transcription Service:
– Wit.ai:
– Requires an API key. Obtain a free API key from Wit.ai.
– Transcription is performed online, requiring an internet connection.
– Whisper:
– Does not require an API key.
– Transcription is performed locally on your machine, allowing for offline use.
– Note: Whisper models are large files (hundreds of megabytes to several gigabytes). Downloading and loading these models may take time and consume significant disk space.
3. If Using Whisper:
– Click on Download Model to download the Whisper language model.
– Select the desired model size:
– Tiny and Base models: Smaller, faster, but less accurate.
– Small, Medium, and Large models: More accurate but require more disk space and processing power.
– System Requirements:
– Ensure your system meets the requirements for the selected model.
– Be aware of potential high CPU usage during transcription, especially with larger models.
4. Choose your preferred language for dictation.
5. Customize other settings such as recording time, shortcuts, and dictation preferences.

Usage

1. Start recording by using the configured shortcut (default: Ctrl+Alt+R).
2. Speak clearly into your microphone.
3. Stop recording using the same shortcut or automatically after the set maximum recording time.
4. The application will process your speech and insert the text at your cursor position.

Notes

– Using Whisper:
– Transcription is performed locally.
– May result in higher CPU usage during transcription.
– Transcription time may be longer compared to online services, depending on hardware and model size.
– Using Wit.ai:
– Requires an active internet connection.
– May be faster on machines with limited processing power.

Advanced Features

– Voice Typing Mode: Enable continuous dictation for longer sessions.
– Slow Typing Mode: Adjust the typing speed for better compatibility with certain applications.
– Customizable Transcription Service: Switch between Wit.ai and Whisper based on your needs and preferences.

Troubleshooting

– Be aware of high CPU usage during transcription:
– If you experience performance issues, consider using a smaller model.
– Close other resource-intensive applications.
– Ensure your hardware meets the recommended specifications.
– If the application becomes unresponsive, try switching to Wit.ai.

Updates

The application will automatically check for updates. When an update is available, you’ll be prompted to download and install it. You can also manually check for updates in the settings menu.
